RANGE RULES
SAFETY IS THE STANDARD. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Every member, every visitor, every time. These rules exist to protect everyone on the range — including you. Please read and comply before shooting.

The Five Firearms Safety Rules — Always in Effect
1. Treat every weapon as if it were loaded.
2. Never point a weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot.
3. Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to fire.
4. Keep the weapon on safe until you intend to fire.
5. Know your target and what lies beyond it.
Range Commands & Safety Officers
All shooters are safety officers. Anyone who observes an unsafe act or condition can — and should — call a loud "CEASE FIRE" or "STOP!" All persons on the range will loudly repeat the command three times. On the command: stop firing immediately, unload and show clear, then holster your handgun or bench your long gun with the action open and the muzzle pointed downrange, and step away from the firing line.
Cold range — moving downrange. Never move forward of the firing line without a cease fire in effect called by the Range Safety Officer (RSO). Once all firearms are made safe and each shooter has confirmed with a thumbs-up or verbal confirmation with eye contact, the RSO will declare the range COLD. Only then may anyone move downrange. While any person is downrange, no one will handle a firearm in any way.
Range Safety Officers. Armed RSOs are on duty during operating hours. Follow all RSO and staff instructions immediately. Double Tapp Range reserves the right to refuse service to anyone.
Check-In & Firearm Handling
All shooters must check in at the check-in station before using any range.
Firearms must arrive at check-in holstered, unloaded and cased, or remain in your vehicle.
On the property, firearms must be holstered, cased, or carried with actions open (long guns) until you are on your dedicated range.
Any firearm resting on a bench must be unloaded with the action open and the muzzle pointed downrange — bolts locked to the rear, magazines removed, revolver cylinders open.
Minors & Age Policy
Minimum age to shoot is 8. Children under 8 are welcome but may not shoot & must be supervised.
Every shooter under 18 must be accompanied and directly supervised at all times by an adult age 21 or older.
A supervising adult may supervise no more than 2 minors age 12 or older, or 1 minor under age 12.
Ammunition & Steel Targets
Prohibited ammunition & targets. Armor piercing and steel core ammunition (including green tip / M855), incendiary, tracer, and exploding ammunition are prohibited, as are exploding targets. Violators are strictly liable for resulting damage and will be removed from the property with membership terminated without refund. All other standard calibers are welcome.
Steel targets. Minimum engagement distances: pistols 7 yards; large-caliber handguns 10 yards; rifles 50 yards. No hollow point and no steel core or armor-piercing ammunition on steel. Personal steel targets require RSO approval before use.
Facility Rules
Eye & ear protection: appropriate hearing and eye protection is required on all ranges at all times.
Alcohol & drugs: alcoholic beverages and drugs are strictly prohibited on the property, including consumption or use prior to arrival. No person may handle a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or any medication that could impair safe conduct.
Food, drink & smoking: no food or drinks on any firing line. Only bottled non-alcoholic drinks in staging and observation areas. No smoking anywhere on the premises.
Vehicles: speed limit is 15 MPH on all range roads at all times.
Animals: service animals are welcome. No other animals are permitted on the property.
Fires: burn barrels and fire pits (picnic areas) may be used only when fires are permitted by the BLM.
Cleanup: clean your shooting area when done and place trash in the provided receptacles. Sweep brass on concrete to the very rear of the bay; rake brass on dirt into a pile.
Buildings: close roll-up doors and man-doors before leaving any building.
Violation of these rules may result in removal from the property and suspension or termination of membership or access privileges. Decisions of Double Tapp Range Management are final.
